Racism Vs Stereotypes

 Stereotype!

A stereotype is a fixed idea that many people have about a race or a group of people that may often be untrue or only partly true, and things they have done right or may have done wrong. People look at one person of different color from them or different religion they see only the bad from what the news and media represent. They don't know who or where they come from so they say things about them and it is all things you hear on the news, citizens, media, and governments.

Examples

First Nations
Non-educated, poor living
Savage
Alcoholics, drug addicts
Negative, put down
Canadians
Canadians say "sorry" a lot
We have free health care
Put maple syrup on everything
Say "Eh" a lot

Cree First Nation-

The picture on the left the Cree First Nation looks like someone you would not want to meet caption is a drug dealer, and that is a stereotype a lot of Aboriginals get called because Canadians don't know them or who they are and that is how they think and see them and would not want to meet him. The second picture has James smiling and looking happy, looks better then the picture on the left agree. The caption says what he actually dose and is in this world now if Canadians just take the time to sit down and meet First Nations they are a lot more friendly then the stereotype people live by.
Quote from James Lathlin
That ignorance hurts and people need to learn that every culture has downfalls. There’s good and there’s bad. At the end of the day, we all bleed red."
Tackling the R word

Racism!

Racism is a belief that a particular race is higher in demand then another race. From a persons physical looks and personal traits they get harassed and discriminated from racial slurs.

Examples

The Impact of Stereotypes and Racism on First Nations
The impact it has on First Nations kids is really powerful. First Nations parents wants the best for them they want their kids to succeed and make it out of the town, city, or reserve they have grown up in. Most First Nations parents like to grow out there kids hair but as they get older it get harder for them to do it, because other parents don't teach their kids not to bully others for there values, beliefs, and religions. Which usually leads First Nation kids to wanting to cut their hair. When there is all of this media, news, t.v shows and, videos games about First Nations doing something bad or being in a bad situation the kids and teens well pick it up and as they get older that is how they well see them self if those are the only teachings and things they pay attention to. Most well see it on media or news because it is all around us and it is always the bad and hardy ever any good about Aboriginals. Some First Nations are ashamed of being Aboriginal because they have been getting teased growing or they do not want there kids to go through what they have been through, Some of the First Nations peoples well live like the rest of Canadians so they feel like they fit in some where in the world and it is like wearing a mask over your body.

Reconciliation and Education
The video tells about some of first nations History and things that are happening right now. Starleigh Grass talks about the reconciliation and education. She talks about what she would like to have in her reconciliation and 3 main points citizens should think about when talking about reconciliation. You must understand what incredible value existed before residential school if not you can not fully, truly understand reconciliation.

Why should First Nations care, Why should Canadians care?
Canadian's should pay more attention to what they say and do to First Nation people. Christopher Columbus sailed across the ocean thinking he landed in India and he started calling us Indians, but we have got along with them we showed each-other new survival tools. First Nations showed them how to live of the land and after fighting wars with each-other they decided to go against us and everything went all down hill. First Nations is the most fastest growing population in Canada, More than half of Aboriginals live in the city, Aboriginals are usually only recognized when something bad is happening or had happened to First Nations. Aboriginals always get told to "just get over it". 1 in 4 Aboriginal children live in poverty, the diabetes rate for First Nations rate is 3-times more likely then Canadians.
First Nations should pay more attention to how we treat and talk back to the Canadians who have and are treating us bad. First Nations hardly ever come out as a fighter until someone has pushed them until they cannot handle it. Aboriginals can be calm and peaceful when you just sit down and talk to them get to know them before Canadians live off what they have heard from other people, or what the government says, and dose to First Nations. Aboriginals are respectful to one another and do there best to be that way until someone crosses the line then war breaks loose to Canadians and First Nations.

Connection
The reason why I think stereotypes and racism connects is because it is a huge part of Canada. Firstly, Canada is known to be the second racist country in the world. Secondly, I think Canadians and First Nations need to make a better relationship before we want to go anywhere in the #TRC project. A lot of First Nations still get harassed and have racial slurs said to them because the stereotypes everyone hears. People thinks it is alright to call people what they hear on social media, news, friends, and citizens say about a certain culture. Lastly, if this reconciliation project fails and everything goes back to the way things used to be with cultural genocide, racial discrimination, and hate, now did anyone really learn anything.

Adrian, I notice a few things for you to consider. First, I am not sure what you mean by "Stereotype is certain religion people follow, and things they have done right or might have done wrong." I think this statement needs to be clarified. For instance, one definition of stereotype is "a fixed idea that many people have about a thing or a group that may often be untrue or only partly true". Where does the idea that it is a religion come from?
